Sebago is a town located in Cumberland County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,433.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 119.4 km² (46.1 mi²). 84.9 km² (32.8 mi²) of it is land and 34.5 km² (13.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 28.87% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there were 1,433 people, 584 households, and 412 families residing in the town. The population density was 16.9/km² (43.7/mi²). There were 1,240 housing units at an average density of 14.6/km² (37.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.33% White, 0.35% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 0.35% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 584 households out of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 22.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.86.

In the town the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $40,391, and the median income for a family was $43,512. Males had a median income of $33,083 versus $25,139 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,995. 5.8% of the population and 4.0% of families were below the poverty line. 7.6% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
