To meet Wikipedia's quality standards, this article or section may require cleanup. Jeanne Lanvin (1867-1946) was a French fashion designer and entrepreneur. Lanvin was born in Brittany in 1867, the eldest of 10 children. She set up as a milliner in the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in 1890, later branching out into children's and women's clothing. In 1909 Lavin joined the Syndicat de la couture, achieving formal status as a couturiere. In the 1920s, Lavin opened shops devoted to home decor, menswear, furs, and lingerie, but her most significant expansion was the creation of Lanvin Parfums SA with the introduction of her signature fragrance Arpège in 1927. One of the most influential designers of the 1920s and '30s, Lanvin is known for mother-daughter garments, simple shift dresses, and her fitted, full-skirted robe de style. The House of Lanvin is the oldest fashion house still in operation; it was acquired by L'Oreal in 1990, and taken private again in 2001. External links
