Challenge is a British digital TV channel owned by Flextech. Originally starting out as 'The Family Channel', and later 'Challenge TV', it has historically shown various game shows taken from a variety of sources, including some they made themselves, and the majority of its programmes are still in this genre. Challenge also has interactive features for certain shows of some digital platforms. This enables viewers to "play-along" at home. It is the closest British equivalent of the American Game Show Network (latterly GSN). Shows on Challenge include Takeshi's Castle, Knightmare, It's a Knockout!, Extreme Dodgeball, TV Scrabble, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (older episodes are aired as "Classic Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?), The Crystal Maze, Fort Boyard, the Lily Savage version of Blankety Blank, Family Fortunes, Wheel of Fortune, Play Your Cards Right, Bruce's Price is Right, Supermarket Sweep, Gladiators, and 3-2-1. In the past the channel also showed Treasure Hunt, Interceptor, Telly Addicts, Strike It Lucky, 100% and the original (Terry Wogan-hosted) version of Blankety Blank. In recent times Challenge, like GSN in the United States, has begun to move away from showing repeats of game shows and has introduced reality and casino-based programmes. This has attracted some criticism to the channel but in return has attracted a whole new audience with shows such as World Poker Tour. In late 2004 Challenge introduced the "GameShow Gods" slot during weekday evenings, where 2 game shows from years gone by were shown each night. They would then be replaced with another 2 game shows the following month. This reintroduced game shows such as Catchphrase, 3-2-1, The Krypton Factor and Bullseye to Challenge. For Summer 2005 Challenge introduced "Old-School Saturdays" with classic Saturday evening programmes such as Gladiators, Don't Try This At Home and You Bet!. The channel receives its gameshows (excluding the player programs) from ITV although it has some from channel 5 (like Fort Boyard) and central (Bullseye) although this channel is now under ITV control, it was a separate channel at the time. logo of the player block on challenge logo of the new player channelIn February 2006, Challenge announced that they are launching a new channel called Player. Previously they aired a late night block under the Player name, featuring gambling programmes such as the World Poker Tour, which has been a great success. The new full-time Player channel will use the same ident as the current Player strand but in a different colour (from red to yellow). It will also not have the famous club p so this might mean they will continue the player block on challenge. It will launch on the 2 March 2006. External link
