A Brita kettle, boiling water that has passed from the top jug through a water filter (white) to the main jug at the bottom.

Brita is a German company that specializes in water filtration products. The company is the world's market leader in portable household water filtration. Brita products include water pitchers, kettles and faucet attachments.

History

Brita (pronounced BRIH-ta) started in 1966 when Heinz Hankammer had the idea of optimizing normal tap water. He named the company after his daughter Brita. Its headquarters is in Taunusstein near Wiesbaden in Germany.

Filtering vodka

The Brita Filter is also exceptionally useful for filtering vodka (a fact made public in a Slashdot article, "Hacking Vodka"). Passing a low quality vodka through a Brita filter approximately 6-12 times will result in vodka with an identical alcohol content and significantly improved quality (certain folk have been known to build funnel systems to filter multiple times in one pass). Korskii vodka performs exceptionally.
