The Bowflex Ultimate XTLU model The Bowflex Machine is an exercise strength training machine marketed and sold under the Bowflex brand by Nautilus, Incorporated. This Company is the successor of the original Nautilus Company founded by Arthur Jones in the early 70s.
Revolutionary Exercise TechnologyInstead of conventional weights or pulley machines, the Bowflex machine used a revolutionary combination of graphite rods called "power rods"™ to create constant resistance or tension, which are used for muscle training. The rods have the advantage of apply constant resistance and are not offset by the momentum of classic dumb weights. The machines also take up much less weight than a room full of iron weights and machines. The Bowflex machine is heavily advertised through Nautilus, Inc,'s Direct Division infomercials and remains one of the most popular machines to have survived the fad of home exercise machines sold during the late 1990s. Voluntary Recall and ImprovementsIn January 2004, about 420,000 Bowflex machines were recalled due to mechanical problems. In November 2004, there was a recall of nearly 800,000 Bowflex machines after reports that several models had broken unexpectedly. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the seats could unexpectedly break, and that the backboard bench could collapse when in the incline position. [1] This recall was voluntary and the Company shipped every purchaser it could locate a free safety repair kit. The parent Company of Bowflex, Nautilus, Incorporated, continues to stand by its innovative product. Nautilus CEO, Gregg Hammann was quoted at one of the Company's web sites making the following statement, "At Bowflex, we stand behind the quality and durability of all our products - past and present. As a result, Bowflex is automatically doubling the (Bowflex) Power Pro limited warranty to 10 full years." [2] Continued ImprovementsDespite some setbacks, the Bowflex machine has continued to be refined and improved. There are now a wide range of models from an update of its original machine to an extremely sophisticated model that has over 100 different exercises. References1.
